American Board of Internal Medicine
UnitedHealthcare is committed to supporting physicians who demonstrate their professionalism through board certification, practice measurement and continuous quality improvement. The American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM), which certifies the nation’s largest medical specialty, has enhanced the traditional process of board certification by offering Maintenance of Certification and Practice Improvement Modules which seek to improve both the quality and cost effectiveness of clinical care delivery.
Physicians in eligible specialties who complete qualifying PIMs may voluntarily submit confirmation of a completed PIM to UnitedHealthcare through ABIM. Upon receipt of this information, UnitedHealthcare will recognize these physicians in UnitedHealthcare physician directories. Additionally, qualifying physicians will receive additional consideration for PIM completion when they are evaluated against quality criteria in the UnitedHealth Premium Designation® Program.
Physicians are encouraged to visit the ABIM Web site to learn more about ABIM’s Maintenance of Certification program and to browse demonstration versions of the PIMs.
