UnitedHealthcare offers an array of tools designed to help participating and non-participating physicians and health care professional connect with us and your other payers electronically.  The attached decision tree is designed to help you identify the type of tool that best accommodates your billing office process/profile.

Before you get started, let us acquaint you with the following components of electronic claim submission:

•  Physician Office Management Information System (POMIS) - an office typically uses this software to print or create batch claim files for electronic submission.  However, if you don't use a POMIS, you can still submit individual claims electronically through a Direct Data Entry (DDE) product.
•  Direct Data Entry (DDE) Products - these products are ideal for the smaller practice without a POMIS that wants to submit electronic claims to their payers.  DDE allows you to key in individual claims for transmission to the clearinghouse.
•  Clearinghouse - is the intermediary between the health care office and payers.  For a fee, the clearinghouse accepts claim submissions, validates and formats the data, and transmits to all payers.  A list of these, along with all the other clearinghouses with which UnitedHealthcare has established a claim submission connection can be referenced from the List of Clearinghouses link below.
