How to Connect

Step 1:  Advise Medicity of Contacts and Schedule

Appoint a Project Manager from your company who can supervise this process and serve as a principal contact during the setup procedures. You will also need to designate a technical contact with whom Medicity's technical team can communicate for technical issues. Contact Medicity at uhclug@medicity.com to advise them of your key contact information and estimated project schedule.

Step 2:  Select Data Format
Download the specification documents using the links below.  Determine which message format best suits your purposes.  If you do not have the expertise internally to comply with these specifications or would prefer to use another format like XML, Medicity can provide your company with professional services to help you meet The Lab Utilization Gateway's data format requirements.

Step 3:  Clarify Data For Inclusion
UnitedHealthcare requires you to send laboratory results for all patients insured and tested under a UnitedHealthcare plan.  Please include partial results, final results, and corrected final results for all laboratory tests, including microbiology and pathology results.  The Lab Utilization Gateway can only accept discrete data and text, not images or PDF documents.

Step 4:  Select a Transport Mechanism
The Lab Utilization Gateway can receive messages in batch mode transfers, or real-time as they are generated by your laboratory system.  The following transport options are available:

  • SFTP - batch mode
  • FTP over VPN - batch mode
  • TCP/IP socket over VPN - real-time

You may use your own SFTP client.

Step 5:  Test
Contact Medicity at uhclug@medicity.com to schedule upload test.  Medicity will send confirmation that the test was successful or contact you with details of the problems encountered.
